AAVAA

Aavaa - the African and Asian Visual Arts Archive, is a unique national resource with a remit to document and raise awareness about the work of contemporary African and Asian artists working in the United Kingdom since the post-war period.

Founded by artist and curator Eddie Chambers in 1989, Aavaa was originally an independent arts organisation based in Bristol. In 1995, the archive relocated to the University of East London (UEL) and is now housed at the newly built Docklands Campus in the School of Art and Visual Theory. The Aavaa team are jointly led by photographer, curator and writer David A Bailey and artist Sonia Boyce.

CASBAH

Moving Here

The vision of Moving Here is to celebrate and explore why people moved to England and record what their experiences are and continue to be. Moving Here will focus on the experiences of people from the Caribbean, South Asian, Irish and Jewish (from Eastern Europe) communities, from the 1840s to the present day.
